Kylie Jenner Lip Kit Review

Kylie Jenner Lip Kit Review

Honestly, I’ve always been skeptical about the Kylie Jenner lip kit and most of Kylie Cosmetics. While I find myself caught up in the glitz and glamour of the Kardashians sometimes, that’s all I thought it was: A makeup company made famous by the name. Read through my review of the Kylie Jenner Lip Kit if you feel the same to see if it is as big as the hype.

Following along since its launch, I’ve seen the growing headlines and controversy surrounding the reality TV star. More and more, I became intrigued with the gloss, mattes, and stains, desiring the plump lips splashed across social media.

I was at the mall with a friend one day when she mentioned how they’re incredible. I have seen so many of my friends with these products that this comment was enough to make me decide I need to try them for myself.

Ordering the shades

I waited until they went on sale and then bought two different shades: Charm in Velvet and Mary Jo in Matte. Charm is a nude and Mary Jo is a red. We all need a go-to red lip and I have been in search of a hue that compliments my skin forever. Most shades I try end up being too orangey and don’t look right. So when I saw Mary Jo was a true blue and best seller, I hopped on that fast.

The site was super easy to use and despite it being a large traffic time, I experienced no issues placing my order. Pressing the “complete order” button, however, was almost impossible. Even with the sale, these lip kits come with a hefty price tag. Yet, I found myself beyond excited when the pale pink box showed up at my house.

Mary Jo Matte

Mary Jo was the first one that I tried out of the two. When I first opened the package, I was terrified. The liquid looks a lot brighter and closer to orange in person, initially making me panic. I kept thinking about how much money was spent on these lip kits and what I could’ve invested in instead. But my freak out was premature.

Opening the lip liner next, a product I’ve never used in my life, turned out to be the exact shade that I wanted. The product turned out to be a lifesaver. The liner is an absolute staple in any lip routine. It truly transforms your lips, naturally making them look more plump.

I tried the Mary Jo lip kit the day of my birthday party and it was more than I could’ve asked for! I feel so confident in this color. Never have I found one that matched my skin so well.

Plus, I wore it the entire night and never once did my lips feel parched, dry or cracked as they often do in a matte lip and the color barely faded. It’s by far my favorite red. I don’t think I will go anywhere else for this shade.

Ladies, if you’re looking to add a red shade to your makeup bag, I highly recommend this Mary Jo! Plus, a red lip always elevates your look.

Charm Velvet

First, for all of you that don’t know, “Velvet” is a cream liquid lipstick rather than a matte (which tends to be drier and less reflective). It feels incredibly buttery on the lips and I wouldn’t mind (I’d actually prefer) wearing it all day.

I was certain this color would be a winner but I found it’s a little too bright for me. It’s supposed to be in the nude category of her lip kits but it looked like actual candy had melted on my lips. However, the lip liner came in a darker shade which actually matched my lips quite nicely and enhanced them. Because of the color, I learned to apply just a touch of the liquid in the middle of my lips and use it to spread it around the remaining areas to get the color I desired. I do this with Mary Jo too if I’m going for a less pigmented color.

TIP: Make sure to buy the pencil sharpener for the lip liner. Kylie has one on her site for a reasonable price!

Conclusion

These are by far some of the nicest liquid lipsticks I’ve ever used. In terms of feeling, these are heaven. Not once do I feel like I have to apply chapstick nor do my lips appear that way either. I’ve owned many, many lip colors in my life including mattes, glosses, stains and creamy formulas but nothing matches this quality. These lip kits are also extremely pigmented and tend to last hours after wear, even after eating and drinking.

One of the greatest things about these lip kits is how they make my lips appear so much larger. Like Kylie, I was born with smaller, less plump lips but I have never undergone fillers to make them bigger. The design of darker lip liner with the lighter liquid lipstick makes your lips look naturally larger and plumper, especially in photos. I’ve never been able to achieve this look with any other product, so this truly is a selling point for me.

I would have to say that in this case, the product definitely lives up to its name.

Just take all my money, Ky. I’m a true supporter now.
